    Households on grid electricity

    About these numbers

From the National Population and Housing Census 2024, via UBOS’s census portal. We turn UBOS’s counts into shares (for example, households on grid power out of all households) so large and small districts compare fairly. Sub-region and national figures are calculated from the summed counts. Colour groups follow natural breaks in the data, so unusually high or low districts stand out.

Island and lakeside districts such as Kalangala and Buvuma include open water inside their boundaries, so their people-per-km² figures look lower than life on the ground.

Note: UBOS's mobile phone ownership table currently repeats the internet-use figures, so phone ownership is left out.

The Farming questions come from the National Livestock Census 2021.

Note: From the National Livestock Census 2021. Animals per 100 people use the 2024 population census, three years later, so they slightly understate animals per person where populations grew fast.

Note: The 2021 livestock census counts cities (and Terego) inside their parent districts, so those areas are blank on the map and the parent’s figures use the combined population: Arua includes Arua City, Terego; Gulu includes Gulu City; Kabarole includes Fort Portal City; Hoima includes Hoima City; Jinja includes Jinja City; Lira includes Lira City; Masaka includes Masaka City; Mbale includes Mbale City; Mbarara includes Mbarara City; Soroti includes Soroti City.

Note: UBOS’s district table for pigs shows 20,881 in its Uganda row, but its districts and its sub-region table both give 7,083,943; we use the latter.
